The Equity Fellows program, formerly known as the Deep Learning Equity Fellowship, is an immersive 18-month leadership development journey designed to cultivate educational leaders who are deeply committed to advancing equity and learner-centered excellence in public education. Launched in 2015 through a collaboration between Big Picture Learning and the Internationals Network for Public Schools, the program supports fellows - individually and as a community of practice - in exploring their leadership soul while addressing persistent inequities in education.

Through in-person convenings and virtual gatherings, fellows collaborate and reflect on the systems and structures that hinder access to deep, meaningful learning - especially for historically underserved students - and build toward a capstone project aimed at disrupting those inequities.

With over 100 alumni, the Equity Fellowship continues to grow as a powerful network of equity-driven leaders. As the program has matured, many alumni return to support new cohorts as mentors, facilitators and speakers - contributing to a vibrant, cross-cohort community of educators committed to dismantling systemic barriers. In an era of increasing demands and limited resources, the Fellowship provide a much-needed space for reflection, growth and action - supporting leaders as they create more equitable, learner-centered environments in their schools and communities.
We've just welcomed our 7th cohort, but in future cycles we'll be seeking experienced and equity-driven leaders working at both the school and system levels—including education practitioners, policy advocates, and researchers—who are committed to transforming public education through learner-centered practices. Ideal candidates bring an innovative mindset, a strong bias toward action, and a deep sense of urgency. They demonstrate a track record of championing equitable learning opportunities, a clear potential for continued leadership growth, and the maturity to engage meaningfully with a diverse cohort of peers.
